This I Believe Essay

I believe that everyone has a guardian angel at some point in their lives. I believe that when someone looses a loved one or just someone who was close to you, they will be your guardian angel that is there to protect you and guide you through your life until the end.

Many people believe that only people who have done something bad or someone who is doing the wrongs things in life only have a guardian angel, and I disagree. I think everyone has one. They would be someone who would always look out for you, and make sure you’re doing the right things.

When my grandpa died two years ago, I thought it was the end of everything. It was the first time I had to deal with a death of a family member. I was very close to my grandpa too, making it even harder to say goodbye to him, and not seeing him again. I was always thinking about him, wondering where he was and if he was watching me or making sure he was still in my life even if he was dead. People may think that I’m crazy for thinking that, since everyone believes that when you’re dead, you’re gone, and I really didn’t believe that when anyone told me.

I can remember one day when I was thinking about my grandpa when I was playing my volleyball game for school, and I really wanted to have good serves throughout the whole game. I was thinking that maybe my grandpa is watching me and he could help me do well this game. I did very good that game, and it made me realize that he is watching over me and always helping through the things I need. After that day, every time I thought about him

I can see where people are coming from when they say they don’t think they have a guardian angel. Some people have had many deaths happen in their life, and still don’t think they do or they just don’t believe they have one, but I think that everyone will sometime in their lifetime. You just got to remember that probably not all the time can your guardian angel help you, but they are still watching over you, and they will help you when the time is needed.
I will take positve and negative critisism.
Tell me what if you feel the same way about it.

I know that sometimes things could not be good for you when a family member or someone close to you dies, but I believe that they are still there, and they will help you through the tough times. All you have to do is realize and believe that they are still in your hearts forever.
The Road to a Brighter Future

For about four years, Peer Helpers has made many friendships with the children attending River Hills. For people who don’t know what this school is all about, it’s a public sponsored school for students with moderate, severe, and profound developmental disabilities. With approximately about 150 students attending this school, our Peet Peers have about 5 to 7 in one classroom. It gives us a bigger chance to become friends with people who we call in other words “different.”

“We’ve met so many new people, and we established new relationships with the children at River Hills,” says Mrs. Samek, the teacher for Peer Helpers. “I think as a group we appreciate what we have a lot in common with the kids rather than our differences like everyone would think.” River Hills has influenced me in many ways. I’ve become friends with people I never thought I could be friends with. People look at theses kids as different, when we actually are a lot alike. We do the same things as them; eat the same things, play outside, play games, all the things we do, they can do as well as us.

“I love getting to meet new people and seeing how their lives are since they have disabilities,” says Marissa Rowen, a former Peet Peer. “You realize they’re just like us, and they have great hearts. They see the world just like we do.” I agree with Marissa, the only thing the kids from River Hills want is a friend. They just need someone to listen to them when they need someone to talk to. They always open up their hearts to everyone and would be friends with whoever wanted to be, and I think people like us should do the same for them.

The kids have influenced me and many other people in so many ways. They’ve opened up our eyes to see new things in the world; instead of judging them by the way they look. If you haven’t been in Peer Helpers, I definitely suggest taking it next year, it’s a great experience.

The Korean War

The Korean war was often called the forgotten war. With the two world wars and the Vietnam war following that, many people forgot about it. No one really knew anything about it. It wasn't the most popular war since it only lasted three years while the others lasted more than 10 years. (4)
North Korea and South Korea wanted their own form of government. North Korea wanted all of Korea to be communist, while South Korea wanted democracy. (5) The governments of these two countries were established in 1948. The Republic of Korea in the South, and People's Democratic Republic in the North. (4) Since they were not both the same kind of government, it started many problems between each other.

For many years, Japanese ruled all of Korea. At the end of World War II, Russia and the US forces entered Korea and fought the Japanese out. It took them awhile, but they finally surrendered on September 9, 1945. The Russians and the US decided that Korea should be split into two halves, but the Korean's wanted to be just one country. Russia and China were fighting with the North Korean's, while US and other United Nations joined with South Korean's big army. North Korea thought force must be used to unite North Korea and South Korea to be one form of government. So, using Russian weapons, they attacked South Korea at dawn on June 25, 1950. This was the start of the Korean War. (5)

For about three years, the fight against communist and non-communist of Korea had many invasions by each Korean country. North Korea had South Korea at their fingertips. On June 27, 1950, the capital of South Korea, Seoul was captured. United Nations was scared that communism would get spread to close countries, because they were attacking South Korea. America's army then came to help South Korea, and since the American army was pretty small, North Korea trapped them behind enemy territory. (5)

By August 1950, South Korea has almost been lost. North Korea had invaded almost the whole South Korea. More troops from all over the world then came to help out the South. On September 1, 1950, North Korean then attacked all around the barriers. They then invaded Inchon, the major supply center for South Korea. By September 18, American troop launched many air attacks on the North Korean army, and they were pushed back to the imaginary line dividing North and South. (5)

The war then turns around. Troops for the South moved on to North Korean's capital P'yongyang. They stayed in control of North Korea for a while. The invasions just got bigger and bigger. After months of fighting, and two years of peace talks with no progress, the war still continued. Battles still took place but also long periods of none as well. United Nations was slowly, but efficiently taking control of North Korea, but North Korea would not give in. Untied Nations gained 20 miles of the country. (5)

Truce talks began in July 1951, making sure all of North Korea and South Korea had some word in them. The war ended two years later, with the original boundary of North and South Korea to stay the same. The armistice was signed July 27, 1953, ending the war. Although a peace treaty never followed. (4) Even to this day, the war continues. North and South Korea still have standing armies at the boundary line, often still getting in disputes. (5) Many troops that fought in this war died. Untied States losses were about 54,000 dead and 103,000 wounded. (4) The Chinese and the Koreans were 10 times higher. Deaths in the Korean War totaled up to more than 3,000,000 people. Even though this war was a forgotten one, it had a big impact on our lives and how we live today. (5)

Crossing Over

I lie there,
trembling,
In fear.
Scared.
Shocked.
Lost..
And all I can do is think of you.
I never meant for this to happen.
The only thing I wanted to do was to
Save you.

I wanted to do this.
You deserve more than me.
You have a whole life ahead of you
And no need to worry about me,

I already through mine away..
There is nothing for me to live for,
Except you.
And given the chance to save
Your life insted of mine,
It really is

The least I could do.

Don't be sad though.
I only did this for you.
I took my life,
Just to save yours.

And now,
As I walk across this bridge,
The memories of you are still clear.
They never will leave me,
no matter where I am.

I'm floating into a new world.
A world where everything is good.
I will never feel hurt,
Never feel the pain,
The pain that I'm feeling now
As I lie here watching you sob,
while you're hugging me close.
And I know that I'm gone for good,
I know it's hard, but
Just remember
I'm always looking after you.

I'm finally going to the new world.
The place of all afterlife,
The place I can finally call home.

And even if I'm here,
You're still the only thing on my mind.

Just always know one thing,
I did this for you.
Never forget,
I love you.
